How do I know if I need a brake fluid change?

Brake fluid is usually a light, clear color. If it's not clean or transparent, then your brake fluid is dirty and needs changing. The reservoir should have a label that says, “full line.” If the brake liquid falls below that line, it's a sign your need to change your brake fluid or top it off.
One thing you do not want is excessive copper in your brake fluid. Once the fluid reaches 200 copper parts per million, the brake fluid's corrosive effect increases greatly. This can potentially cause problems, requiring you to have an auto brake repair service performed.
If you can't remember the last time your automobile had a brake fluid service, it’s most likely overdue. If you notice a change in the feel of the brake pedal or in your stopping capabilities, make an appointment for an inspection to see if a brake fluid service may resolve this issue. Timeliness is very important when it comes to possible malfunctions that affect the safety of your vehicle.
